Usually not — most projects work with commercially available sensors and controllers; we only recommend custom hardware when off-the-shelf genuinely can't meet the requirement.

We design for graceful degradation — devices queue state changes and sync when reconnected, rather than silently failing or requiring a manual reset.
How do you keep connected devices from becoming a security risk?+
Each device is provisioned with its own credentials and kept on a segmented network path where possible, so one compromised device can't become a way into everything else.
